I was traveling to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Highway when my trip took an unexpected turn. On the second day, I damaged my cornea. At first, I thought it was just grit or a hair in my eye, but when eye wash didn’t help and the pain only grew worse, I went to urgent care. They quickly realized it was beyond what they could handle and referred me to a specialist.
Thankfully, I ended up at Rocky Mountain Eye Center, where I was treated by Dr. Daniel Larsen. Because I already struggle with extremely dry eyes, the dry climate had made things worse, and by the time I was seen, two-thirds of my cornea was damaged. Dr. Larsen and his team were outstanding. He treated my eye and placed a contact lens bandage that immediately relieved the pain and allowed me to continue traveling safely.
Rocky Mountain Eye Center provided excellent care, but the expertise and compassion I received from Dr. Larsen and his team were truly exceptional. I’m deeply grateful to have crossed paths with such skilled professionals while away from home.

I had been seen at Rocky Mtn. Eye Center in Missoula; because my cataracts were affecting my vision, decided to have them removed. Later I had moved to Dillon, so I went to Dr. Clay Holley at RMEC in Butte Oct. 2022. I can't remember ever having a medical professional treat me the way he did. After the tests, I sat waiting, while his back was to me not saying a word. I finally asked him about my surgery, and he just said, 'You don't need it', still with his back to me. He did not explain anything, and I had to ask him questions trying to get answers to help me understand why. He was curt, and seemed bothered by my questions, like I was annoying him. He made me feel stupid for even being there, I left in tears, and I will never go back. In 2025, I found out I've had glaucoma for a while, which could be helped with stints, and could be done during cataract surgery. Dr. Swan at Vance Vision in Bozeman, was amazing! The whole experience was so refreshing, the complete opposite of Holley.

We have gone to Dr Larsen for several years. He is the best! He takes time to explain everything and does a very thorough exam! He is very personable and we highly recommend him!

The doctor was very nice. However, my prescription was way off. I could not see out of the new glasses I received at Rocky Mountain. I was told it would take awhile to get use to the new prescription, but I felt 3 months was long enough to get use to the new prescription. Well I finally went to the Helena office as I didn't want to drive 4 hours round trip to Missoula from Helena. The young, unprofessional girl in Helena Rocky Mountain said it was probably the frames. I told her it was the new lenses that was the problem. She just couldn't understand that I could not see well out of these glasses. So I left. I then went to a different place for a new exam which is only 3 months after the bad lenses were made. Turns out I was right, the prescription was wrong. I now have glasses I can see out of. Three stars because the doctor was nice, and the staff was nice. But billing department is so bad!!!!!!!!! I have VSP, no eye problems and specifically made appointment for eye glasses only. Yet they billed medical and claimed we owed over 180.00. Not the 15.00 copay I paid. I'm then told I have an outstanding balance from over a year ago, which is not correct as I have VSP and paid for all upfront. My friend had a refund coming from a year ago, which they never gave him. They kept it instead of giving him the refund. Still haven't received it. They still have it.

Yearly checkup for eyes and also follow up for cataract surgery. Dr. Hintz is very easy to talk to and explain the nature of your eyes and I age.

Dr. Guess is the BEST!!! I have seen him for years and I would never think of going to a different doctor. He is very professional. He knows his “stuff!!”

Dr. Guess is great. He is very knowledgeable and professional. I could go to an eye doctor in Helena for the recurring procedure I get, but I choose to travel a couple of hours to Missoula to see Dr. Guess. I trust him with my eyes.
